The Marist College Institute for Data Center Professionals (IDCP) was founded in 2004 with support and funding from the National Science Foundation. The concept was originally designed by Dr. David Boyes and Sine Nomine Associates in 2001. The IDCP in partnership with professional organizations, industry and governmental organizations has been providing individuals and company representatives with vendor-neutral skills-based training and credentialing that will support the data center and enterprise computing environments of the future. Professionals working in the data center and enterprise computer realm are critical resources for the nation’s economic stability and national security yet there is a significant skills shortage as these professionals are retiring from the workforce and traditional educational programs are not addressing the skills shortage. To date, approximately 400 students from across the globe have participated in the various programs offered through the IDCP. The mix of students has been diverse and the response to the program effectiveness has been overwhelmingly positive. New courses have been developed to address the ongoing challenges resulting from new standards of operation and energy efficiency issues.
