Introduction to AIX on Power

In this first course, students learn the fundamentals of the AIX operating system. The course provides a survey of the IBM Power platform as well as a hands-on exploration of essential AIX and UNIX tools and techniques. No Unix/Linux experience is assumed, but any prior exposure will be helpful.

Topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Advantages and features of POWER platform

  • AIX documentation

  • Korn shell features & customization

  • POSIX commands & utilities

  • File systems and directory hierarchy

  • Process monitoring & job control

  • Vi editor

  • Text processing and filters

  • Shell programming & scripting languages

  • Common Desktop Environment (CDE) and alternatives

  • Similarities and differences between AIX and Linux
